The first ever snowy plover has been spotted in New York State by a Finger Lakes Community College graduate.
Sarah Forestiere watches piping plover nests at Sandy Island Beach State Park on Lake Ontario for a living, and while working she spotted the rare bird.
Montezuma Audubon Center’s Chris Lajewski said that area is one of the best ones for bird watchers.
He said there’s a 17 mile stretch on the eastern end of the lake where many different birds can be seen.
The bird is more often seen in southern and western states as well as the Caribbean.
