Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that $27 million dollars in storm aid will be given to undocumented New York State residents impacted by the flooding caused by Hurricane Ida.
The aid will be disbursed by providing grants to non-profit organizations in communities.
Hochul said she pledged she would do everything she could after seeing the damage and wants to provide financing to undocumented residents that are ineligible for FEMA relief.
People most affected live in areas where the storm water and sewer systems could not handle the rain, which includes basement apartments.
The program will be handled through the New York State Office for New Americans and Hochul urges those who qualify to apply.
