Every year Governor Andrew Cuomo held an event that would give millions in economic development grants and invited local business leaders, chambers of commerce officials and state lawmakers.
Governor Kathy Hochul is open to the idea of something similar, but wants to change it just a bit.
One change she wants to consider is to award grants locally from the state.
She’s open to suggestions from those that have been involved as well before acting on any changes.
Right now her focus is on economic development strategies, as the unemployment rate remains double what it was before the pandemic.
She pointed out that she began in local government and did not like it when Albany delegated from above, so she wants to work with people and their local governments.
One of her ideas is to bring high-tech companies to the state, like chip manufacturers, to help drive the economy.
