Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled her plan for the expected shortage of healthcare workers with the vaccine mandate happening Monday.
A state of emergency will be declared to employ qualified licensed healthcare professionals from other states, countries, those who recently graduated, and those that have retired in New York State.
The state can also utilize medically trained National Guard members.
All healthcare workers must have their first dose of the vaccine by Monday, Sept. 27.
Other facilities like home care, hospice and adult care have until Oct. 7.
As of Sept. 22, 84% of employees in the state’s hospitals have been vaccinated.
