Three Ontario County residents are arrested and charged with welfare fraud

Three Ontario County residents were arrested on Sept. 20 on charges relating to illegally collecting benefits from the Ontario County Department of Social Services.

Carlos Mattei, 26, of Canandaigua, and Padolys DeJesus, 27, of Canandaigua, are each charged with 5 counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

They received a total of $5014.17 in benefits.

Child care benefits amounted to $4,329.27 and SNAP benefits amounted to $685.00.

They collected the money from November of 2020 through May of 2021.

Both individuals are facing one count of welfare fraud in the third degree.

A Geneva woman was also arrested on Sept. 23 and charged with two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

She allegedly filed false instruments with the Ontario County DSS as a childcare provider for Mattei and DeJesus.

She was issued an appearance ticket to show up at Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
