Steve MacNeal, the Wayne County sheriff candidate, chose Laura Elsbree, a road patrol sergeant with the sheriff’s office, as his running mate.
He explained in a news release that he initially was going to choose an undersheriff after the election, but wanted to remain transparent and knew he wanted to choose Laura.
Elsbree has made it clear that if MacNeal wins, she would like to see collaboration with the community they serve.
She would be the first ever female undersheriff in Wayne County history.
