Governor Kathy Hochul shared that with the state’s finances improving since the start of the pandemic, the hiring freeze will be lifted for state government jobs.
The freeze was previously announced to be ending in May by the Cuomo administration, but Hochul made it official.
The original projection for the state government’s revenue was $2.1 billion below what it currently is since the start of the pandemic.
When the freeze began there were around 118,000 full-time executive branch agency workers, and now there are around 107,500.
