Governor Kathy Hochul is now taking on the issue of gun control by announcing $23.7 million in funding to help prevent gun violence.
She plans to put funding toward job training, community activities, and intervener staffing for communities that have the highest rates of gun violence.
$16 million will go toward job training and placement for the 20 most impacted cities. The goal is to offer stable and permanent employment opportunities.
$5.7 million will go toward various community activities for before and after school.
$2 million will go toward gun violence intervention programs to interrupt violence by mentoring youth, hosting events, and steering young people away from gun violence.
