Rep. Joe Morelle tests positive for COVID-19, urges community to vaccinate

Congressman Joe Morelle has tested positive for COVID-19.

The representative from Monroe County announced Sunday that he tested positive for the virus. He doubled-down on the COVID-19 vaccine, noting that his infection was less severe because of it.

“After experiencing mild symptoms, I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have followed all guidance from the Center for Disease Control & my physician and will remain isolated until it is safe to resume official duties,” Morelle, a Democrat, said in a tweet. “Thankfully, I’m fully vaccinated so my symptoms remain mild.”

In a follow-up message, he called on the community to protect itself by getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I urge everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves — and our community — from the severe impacts this disease can have. Had I not been vaccinated, my experience could have been much different,” he added.

Dozens of lawmakers at the state and federal level have tested positive for the virus over the last several months.
