Refusal to wear a mask on any form of public transportation could cost you up to $3,000

The fines for people refusing to follow mask mandates on planes, trains, or other public transportation have been increased by the Transportation Security Administration.

A first offense will run between $500 and $1,000, and a second offense will be between $1,000 and $3,000.

President Joe Biden touched on the topic when listing off new mandates and added that the treatment of flight crews for doing their jobs is “disgusting.” People have refused to wear their masks on planes and reacted poorly to those who need to enforce it.

The new fine amounts began Friday and will go until at least Jan. 18.

74% of incidents reported involving out-of-line passengers on flights were over wearing a mask.
