Carpenter Falls Unique Area off Route 41A in the town of Niles will be closed until 2022 for a $1.25 million dollar project, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
The project will help improve public access to the popular area.
There will be new paved parking areas with infrastructure to manage water, a bike rack, bathrooms, an elevated boardwalk with access for all abilities that leads to an observation area, an observation area overlooking Upper Carpenter Falls, and a trail with stone steps.
The addition of steps and a boardwalk not only create better access for visitors, but protect the land from erosion due to foot traffic.
