Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a series of laws that will work to strengthen and protect the workforce in New York State.
The four laws she signed will increase safety in the workplace and give New Yorker’s more money.
A demonstration program will be established that places a speed violation monitoring system in work zones to help keep highway workers safe.
Construction contractors will be held liable for wages owed to their subcontractors. This will help combat wage theft.
The payment of prevailing wage to building service employees will be required at high-end co-ops and condos.
There will be and extension of shared work benefits. This helps people return to work part time but not entirely lose their unemployment benefits. Some people opted not to go back because they would lose benefits and make less than before the pandemic.
