Alec Moore, owner of Apples and Moore in Watkins Glen, says that the drought last year caused smaller apples, but this year they’re large and ready to be picked.
He says the amount of rain, heat, and sunshine all led to a good crop this season.
The orchard has planted 1,400 new trees and new raspberry plantings. They also added sunflowers that visitors can cut themselves and a homemade cider operation.
Apple-picking season goes until mid-October, but some types of apples aren’t in season just yet. McIntosh, Empire or Honey crisp, will be ready soon.
As fall approaches, Moore expects business to pick up.
