Tompkins County Health Department announced it has seen 428 cases in one week, with 79 new cases reported Thursday.
79% of adults have received at least one vaccination and Tompkins County has one of the highest vaccine rates, but cases have quadrupled since August began.
Frank Kruppa, Director for the Tompkins County Health Department, says there are reasons, which include travel.
Many of the cases are among college students.
They live together in dorms or in off campus housing and gather for various reasons.
Kruppa said they did nothing wrong and there is just a lot that is unknown about the Delta variant, vaccines, and how it spreads.
Kruppa suggests that businesses and residents mask up and social distance to help stop the spread.
