Seneca Community Players announces plans for for their 50th season

Seneca Community Players announced Friday plans for their 50th season of theatre in the Finger Lakes. “The last year and half has been tough on live theater and performance of any kind,” said Eric Jansen the group’s president, “we are thrilled to be once again making plans for a full season of shows for 2020.”

Seneca Community Players celebrated it’s 49th year of quality amateur theatre in the Finger Lakes with a virtual performance of Spoon River Anthology in June, and the long awaited, socially distanced and safe live performance of Little Women the Broadway Musical last month.

“Although attendance is slowly rising, we feel confident that we will once again be able to safely fill seats and provide quality shows in the near future,” added Jansen.

As SCP prepares for their 50th year as the longest running Community Theatre in the Finger Lakes, a call for directors has been put out so more live and virtual performances can be had in the year to come.

Both experienced directors and first time directors are encouraged to submit proposals. “If there is a show you’ve been itching to bring to the stage but you have never directed before, we still have a place for you in the SCP family” said Becky Bly, SCP’s Season Planner. She further explained “First-time directors are paired with seasoned directors to provide on-the-job training and advice. Both the new director and mentor gain a lot from the experience, and the result is good theatre plus a new director is added to the pool for future seasons.”

Proposals for dramatic, comedic, and musical productions are being sought by the SCP Season Planning Committee. The 2022 Season will offer a production in each of four time slots; spring (January-April), summer (May –July), fall (August-October) and Winter (November-December). Proposals for a “Young Players” production will also be considered for the summer. Those interested in submitting proposals, will find the Proposal Form located on the forms/policies tab of the SCP website at www.senecacommunityplayers.org. The proposal and a copy of the proposed script should be mailed to Seneca Community Players Season Planning, PO Box 45, Seneca Falls, NY 13148. Proposals may also be submitted electronically at [email protected]. The proposal deadline is October 31, 2021.
