Governor Kathy Hochul submits nominations for New York State’s cannabis board

During the legislature’s session, one of the things they were expected to act on was the confirmation of Governor Kathy Hochul’s nominations for the cannabis regulatory boards.

The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act was passed this year and is structured to regulate and oversee the use of marijuana for adults in New York State.

Hochul legally appointed two individuals to oversee each of the two boards MRTA is comprised of: the state Office of Cannabis Management and the Cannabis Control Board.

Lawmakers did not like any nominations Governor Andrew Cuomo made in the five months he had to fill the positions and he resigned before the positions were filled.

Hochul submitted two names on Wednesday, one being Christopher Alexander to head the Office of Cannabis Management.

Right now Alexander works as the government relations director for a company in Canada called Vill LLC and is a former Drug Policy Alliance policy director.

Tremaine Wright was selected as the chair of the State’s Cannabis Control Board. She is a former assembly member and public defender.
