Cayuga County educators look forward to starting the new school year

Despite COVID-19 being a concern, many Cayuga County officials are excited to start the school year in person.

Some kids haven’t been inside a classroom in over a year.

Auburn District Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said they’ve waited a year and a half for this and while there will be hurdles and it will be a hard year, he is excited.

Steve Woodard from the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Compass program was able to return to in person last year and plans to continue with safety precautions in place. The way the students attend classes and fill classrooms automatically checked many boxes off the COVID-19 safety precaution list.

In addition to spacious classrooms and seating, the BOCES building has 51 doors for students to use when entering or leaving the building.

Genesee and Casey Park Elementary Schools students will be getting one extra day of summer vacation while everyone else will begin school on Tuesday.
