First responders say the fire that destroyed a barn on Saturday in Cayuga County didn’t result in any injuries or loss of livestock.
All of the cows that were inside a large barn that burst into flames were safely removed before any were harmed.
The fire on Eaton Road was reported around 3:30 p.m. It’s the site of Ripley Farms. By the time first responders were on-scene, the barn was fully-involved.
A tanker task force combining forces from Cayuga and Cortland counties was utilized. The flames were still being fought hours later.
Investigation into the fire remains active at this point.












Original Report: Large barn fire in Cayuga County, multiple departments called for tanker task force
Firefighters were called to the scene of a serious barn fire in southern Cayuga County on Saturday.
The barn was reportedly fully-involved during the afternoon hours as the first crews arrived on-scene along Eaton Road in the town of Sempronius.
A tanker task force was utilized to battle the fire due to it taking place in a rural part of the county without municipal water service.
Crews from multiple departments in the area were called to the scene. A fire investigation team was requested.
Neighbors reported on Facebook that they heard a large boom shortly before firefighters arrived on-scene. However, it’s unclear if the two incidents were related.
