Cayuga County Jail is working to create more support for their incarcerated individuals in need of recovery from addiction

Cayuga County Jail is working toward helping incarcerated individuals fighting addiction.

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck explained that people need to be held accountable for breaking the law, but there’s more work beyond that.

He said recovery and treatment options are needed.

The jail is looking into creating a recovery area in one of the pods and all inmates struggling with addiction would be housed together.

The goal is to have them all support each other.
