UR Medicine is taking strict measures when it comes to visitation after cases have been spiking in Rochester.
The changes went into effect at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Rules include:
New patients may have two designated visitors over the age of 18 after they’ve tested negative for COVID. The visiting hours are between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Visitors can visit a maximum of 4 hours but not together.
If a patient passes COVID screening questions one person can sit with them in the ER waiting room for up to 4 hours before they’re admitted. They may visit when the patient tests negative for COVID.
A person can be present for a Surgical Care patient only during the review of discharge instructions.
In the birthing center, one support person and visitor may be present during labor and for up to 4 hours a day after delivery. If the patient is COVID positive they may have one support person but no visitor.
COVID patients will not be permitted visitors unless they meet specific criteria like end of life care.
A person in need of an advocate, like a person with developmental disabilities, may have a support person.
Pediatric patients can have two guardians at the bedside with one staying overnight at the nurse’s discretion.
