A meeting was held in Rochester by the Buffalo Office of the FBI regarding the Federal Violence Prevention and Elimination Response (VIPER) Task Force, which works to stop gun violence in the community.
One thing that’s been discovered is many guns in the state of New York are coming from outside the state from places like Georgia, where they have looser gun laws.
A question raised to the task force was how they planned to eliminate the patterns without mass incarceration or additional police.
Assistant Special Agent Jeremy Bell answered, saying if a criminal can be prevented from committing a crime through education outreach, it would be worth a lot.
He went on to explain that the real trouble was when a criminal already committed the crime and the amount of sources and manpower that takes up.
