A group called Stop the Canal Clear-Cut met Sunday in Pittsford to have a rally in opposition to plans by the Canal Corporation to cut down trees along the Erie Canal.
The plan began four years ago and after a pause for an environmental study, is back in action.
The public can submit written comments until September 5th.
The Canal Corporation explained that it’s necessary for safety reasons to clear the trees along the canal, so engineers can inspect along the water and tree roots don’t grow under the banks.
