Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, banned mask mandates in the state and has tested positive for COVID

Greg Abbott, the Republican Governor of Texas, is fully vaccinated against COVID and has tested positive for the virus.

According to his office, he had been testing daily and today was the first day he has had a positive result.

He will be isolating his the Governor’s Mansion, staying in contact with staff, and continue daily testing for the virus.

His wife has tested negative and the governor is not experiencing any symptoms.

Governor Abbott has been one of the leaders in the middle of the debate on how to handle mask mandates.

He recently issued an executive order that bans any government entity from mandating mask use which includes schools.

Even with COVID spreading through Texas, he has stuck to that decision.

Abbott asked hospitals to stop elective procedures and the Department of State Health Services is trying to find healthcare workers from outside the state to come help with the surge.

Monday reported 14,764 new positive cases of COVID for the state of Texas.
