Some people are noticing green jelly-like blobs within the Finger Lakes, specifically Canandaigua Lake.
Experts with the DEC say they are large colonies of a microscopic organism called Ophrydium Versatil.
Evidently it’s an occurrence that can happen in fresh water anywhere and they feed off of algae and bacteria.
The organisms are harmless and unlike Harmful Algal Blooms.
