Food stamps are about to increase significantly.
The Biden Administration has approved a permanent increase in the levels of food stamp assistance available through the SNAP program.
Beginning in October food stamps benefits will increase 25% above the pre-COVID levels. The increase will mean an immediate boost for 42 million beneficiaries.
The change is part of the USDA’s revision of the Thrifty Food Plan. The average monthly per-person benefits will rise from $121 to $157.
Advocates say pre-pandemic benefit levels simply were not enough.
