After releasing data for breakthrough cases, Steuben County has announced in total they have had 50 breakthrough cases.
Darlene Smith, public health director for Steuben County explained that vaccine companies announced from the beginning that the vaccines were 95% effective against the virus, which means 5% of the time they’re not.
This is something companies have been transparent with since the beginning.
Smith said out of the 41,000 vaccinated residents in Steuben County, it’s “only a 12th of a percentage point.”
Nobody in the county that has contracted the virus and is vaccinated has died.
Smith said the county is being transparent with their data and updating as soon as the numbers are coming in.
