A Syracuse native has opened his second clothing store in Destiny USA.
Jamel Newsome, owner of Mastermind, an urban streetwear retailer, opened his first store on Salina Street.
Mastermind was first created when Newsome worked as a DJ in Atlanta. He was able to connect with celebrities and design clothing for them.
Celebrities he’s worked with include Lil Durk, comedian Jess Hilarious, and Cedric the Entertainer.
Mastermind carries various styles including workout clothes, track suits, accessories, and has a sneaker line.
Other stores recently opened are in Destiny Hugo Boss, Hobby Lobby and Ardene.
Many chains recently left including Best Buy, J.C. Penney, and Lord and Taylor, leaving the mall to struggle financially.
Despite owing more than the mall is worth, owners are trying to work with attorneys and debt advisors.
