Geneva man charged after dog found dehydrated, lying on stone driveway

The Ontario County Humane Society reports that they were called to 38 Park Avenue in Geneva on July 15 for a report of a dog tied in a driveway without food or water.

The dog appeared to be in distress, according to investigators, due to outdoor temperature and humid weather.

Upon arrival, the 14-year-old dog named Rocky was found hyperventilating and lying on the stone driveway at the residence while being tied to a short leash.

The owner, identified as James Valder, 57, of Geneva, could not be located.

Investigators say Rocky had to be taken to the veterinarian for having extreme heat exposure. He was treated and held overnight at the vet’s office. No long-term effects were brought on by the situation.

Investigators added that Rocky’s owner, Valder, was located and charged with animal cruelty, failure to provide food or water to an impounded animal, and failure to provide adequate shelter.

He will answer the charges at a later date in city court.

Rocky remains at the Ontario County Humane Society at this time.
