Colleges navigate the legality behind mandating vaccines across the country as fall semester approaches

As the Delta variant continues its spread, colleges across the country are choosing to require vaccines before the start of the fall semester.

While many colleges are requiring it, there are also some that are avoiding it.

Some Republican led states have banned the ability to have vaccine mandates, while some are simply saying it infringes on personal freedom.

Some campuses have chosen to offer incentives like cash prizes instead of a solid requirement.

Other campuses simply require the vaccine despite the state not supporting that move.

Private colleges have a greater ability to require it, while experts say it’s a legal gray area while the vaccine is still under federal emergency use status.

Students admit that they were apprehensive about shots, but the want for a semester on campus was greater than the worry over the vaccine.

Right now 600 colleges of the approximately 4,000 across the country have mandated vaccines.
