Gerrit Cole has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not pitch on Tuesday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced during his postgame Zoom call on Monday night.
Boone was asked if there were any other positives in the clubhouse: “As of now, he is the only one.”
Cole was expected to make his 22nd start of the season on Tuesday for the Yankees, as they try to bounce back from a 7-1 series opening loss to Baltimore.
Instead, Boone said Nestor Cortes Jr. will likely get the start.
