A new research project is searching for underwater ships below the surface of Seneca Lake.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and State Senator Pam Helming visited Seneca County on Friday to discuss the exploration project that will be used to find canal shipwrecks in some of the deepest spots in the lake.
A remote operated vehicle designed to be used in deep water is being used by a research team to uncover the wrecks.
In 2018 and 2019 the team’s expeditions located up to 16 canal boats.
