A new scam using QR codes has been discovered and the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be on the lookout.
Unsuspecting people may receive an email, text, or direct message through social media with a QR code.
The QR code will take them to a phishing site that prompts the input of personal information.
The BBB offers tips to avoid falling victim to these scams including verifying the code if it came from a friend, not opening links from strangers, verifying the source of the code, and watching for advertising materials that may be tampered with.
People can also install QR scanners with added security.
