A local medical center and its patients were impacted by a third-party data breach.
Patient names, birth dates, and other assorted medical information could have been compromised in a breach that occurred with a company contracted to work with Cayuga Medical Center.
Guidehouse, a Virginia-based company, handles billing and collections was compromised through a service they use to transfer files.
The breach took place in January 2021. Cayuga Medical Center learned about it in May. The letters went out in July.
Guidehouse sent out the letter to patients- not Cayuga Medical Center.
