Local families support Simone Biles decision to pull herself out of the Olympic competition.
Addelyn Heiden, age 10, said she understands Biles decision to pull out because it was too stressful for her, and as a gymnast herself for four years, said she understands the frustration behind landing stunts.
Addelyn’s parents said they applaud the athlete for being the type that would prioritize her mental health over a gold medal.
Addelyn’s mother, Megan, stated that her daughter once struggled to land a back handspring and the situation was similar to Biles stepping back for her own mental wellbeing. She said for her daughter to see Biles endure this is what makes her a great role model for children who need to put their mental health first.
