Harmful Algal Blooms have been spotted in the Tompkins County portion of Cayuga Lake over the last two weeks.
Toxins may be produced by these blooms that can be toxic to humans and animals.
Rain and runoff can increase the chance of HABs appearing in lakes and people are urged not to drink or swim in water that has a strange odor or looks discolored.
Monitoring will continue and areas that do not have the HABs can still be used.
