Experts warn the public of differences with the Delta variant compared to previous strains of virus

Experts say that the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus carries slightly different symptoms than the original virus.

The loss of taste and smell may not happen, but symptoms like cough, shortness of breath, fever, body aches, and congestion may occur. Any of these symptoms should be tested for the virus.

Many people with Covid-19 do not realize it’s what they have until the symptoms become intense and they get tested.

Symptoms for the virus that are common include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, body and muscle aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea.

The Delta variant spreads much easier than previous strains and takes far less of the virus to make a person ill.

This strain is more deadly than previous strains.

The CDC reports that the seven day moving average for new cases has risen 69.3% since the previous week and hospital admissions are 35.8% higher compared to the previous week.

Deaths have also increased 26.3% compared to the previous week.

Experts continue to urge vaccination, and say if someone feels uncomfortable in a crowded setting despite being vaccinated, they can still wear a mask.
