A man allegedly robbed a convenience store in Elmira and is now in police custody.
Elmira Police responded to a call at the 7-Eleven store on Main Street in Elmira on Thursday around 12:50 a.m.
The call was to report a robbery.
The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived and officers were able to interview several witnesses.
Witnesses said when a man approached the clerk to pay for gas he pulled out a gun when the clerk took the money. He then demanded money from the register.
After the clerk handed him cash he got into a vehicle and left heading west.
The following afternoon police identified Sean M. Battle, 34, of Hornell, who matched the description of the suspect.
After he was detained and evidence was recovered, he was charged with first-degree felony robbery.
He has been committed to Chemung County Jail without bail.
