Wayne County is turning 200 years old in 2023, and the planning stages of its celebration have begun.
A committee has been formed to plan the celebration and is led by co-chairs Gene Bavis and Rosa Fox, with Peter Evans, the county historian, as an advisor.
A bicentennial float was created that has been present at various local parades and will be seen participating in other events as the 200th year approaches.
A bicentennial calendar for 2022-2023 is also being created to honor the 200th anniversary and it features the 15 towns in the county using photos of historic moments. It will be made available at community events as well as the Farmer’s Market and historical societies in the county.
The Facebook page created in honor of the event is https://www.facebook.com/waynecounty200 and has more information on the celebration and how to contribute.
