Sheriff: Penn Yan man assaults corrections officer at jail

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 23-year-old Penn Yan man following an assault investigation at the county jail.

Tucker Parmelee, 23, is accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the county jail- and while being removed from his cell for safety- he struck a corrections officer.

That officer was injured, deputies said.

As result, Parmelee was charged with assault and promoting prison contraband- both felonies.

He was arraigned and returned to the county jail.
