OUR FINGER LAKES HISTORY: Ferries on Cayuga Lake (podcast)

This episode documents ferries that operated on Cayuga Lake during the ferry boat era between 1808 and 1866. Before there were railroads, and even until there were improved roads, ferry boats operated on the various lakes of the Finger Lakes region. These ferries made it possible for people, products and livestock to travel the short distance across the lake instead of taking the much longer journey by land around the north or south end.
