On Monday state police were dispatched to a two-vehicle fatal crash on State Route 31 in Lysander.
Troopers say investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by a 66-year-old male was traveling west on Route 31 when he veered into the eastbound lanes and struck a vehicle operated by a Baldwinsville man head-on.
That driver was identified as Paul Kuropatwinski, 44, who was transported to Upstate University Hospital for non life threatening injuries.
The driver of the first vehicle, who was not identified, was transported to Upstate Hospital where he died. A German Shepherd was also found deceased in the back seat of the vehicle.
A 35-year-old passenger in the second vehicle was also transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department, Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps, and the CNY SPCA.
Troopers say the investigation remains active.
