UPDATE: Police ask for public’s help after Ithaca homicide victim identified

The Ithaca Police Department provided an update on Wednesday, as the homicide investigation that started on Taughannock Boulevard continues.

The victim of the shooting, which occurred in the 200 block was Alan Godfrey, 32, of Ithaca.

Police say it’s a well-traveled area, and that the victim was likely targeted.

Police say they are working with FBI, New York State Police, and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.

Police: Ithaca homicide under investigation, no updates on suspect

The Ithaca Police Department said in a news release during the early-morning hours that officers were working a homicide investigation in the city.

Around 12:45 a.m. officers were called to the 200 block of Taughannock Boulevard for a male victim who was shot.

Police said the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds- and as of the morning hours officers remain on scene.


At this point the victim’s identity is not being released.

Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area for the time being.

There were no updates on any potential suspects as of IPD’s initial release.
