Volunteers are finishing up training with the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association in time for the official monitoring season for Harmful Algal Blooms on Seneca Lake.
The season starts August 2nd and will run through October 10th. Many volunteers will continue their monitoring for HABs even outside of the official season.
Last year there were only 7 days where HABs were observed and only one day where the blooms were in two different locations.
HABs were uncharacteristically not present in Seneca Lake, while other lakes had record seasons.
Seneca Lake usually sees the blooms beginning in mid-August with their peaks being in September.
