State lawmakers introduce Victim’s Justice Agenda, a legislative package created to protect victims

Senator Tom O’Mara and his colleagues have created legislation that will protect crime victims.

“Victim’s Justice Agenda” was created in response to rising crime rates in the state.

Republicans argue that the rise is rates is due to policies like bail reform, which are “pro-criminal” and “anti-police.”

The legislative package will:

Repeal the bail reform law.

Add specific offenses committed by a family member to a list of crimes qualifying for bail.

Ensure that repeat offenders qualify for bail and pre-trial detention if convicted of one or more misdemeanor or felony offenses.

Allow the sentence of life in prison without parole for repetitive violent offenses who have three or more felony convictions.

Give judges discretion when they set bail for dangerous defendants.

Require that health care facilities report a sexual offense to the department of health and education.

Protect witnesses from threats and being intimidated.
