State Police made an arrest Friday in connection with an opioid overdose death of a Bloomfield man in December of 2019.
Maurice D. Newton, 31, of Rochester was charged with second-degree manslaughter, a Class C felony, for allegedly giving a 42-year-old man from East Bloomfield opioids that were laced with fentanyl.
When taken in high doses, fentanyl can slow or stop breathing.
Newton was arrested and released from Monroe County Jail on unrelated charges and Troopers took him to the State Police barracks for processing before transporting him to Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing.
