Officials in the city of Auburn are describing the leadership transition happening within the police department a smooth one- and that’s largely due to retiring Chief Shawn Butler giving excess notice of his departure.
Butler will officially retire on Friday, July 16. However, city officials are planning a ceremony to honor the 25 year veteran of the Auburn Police Department.
An announcement is expected next week on who will be the next chief of police.
Deputy Chief Roger Anthony, Captain Kyle Platt, and Lieutenant James Slayton were all eligible for the position. However, Anthony opted to not be considered.
