Federal grant will pay for hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable in Livingston County

During a visit to Mulligan Farm in Avon on Tuesday, Senator Chuck Schumer announced an $11.3 million dollar grant that will expand high speed broadband internet across Livingston County.

Schumer stated that the pandemic shined light on the digital gap in Livingston County being far too wide.

The money will go towards installing hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable in the area.

Empire Access out of Prattsburgh will be partnering with the county for the project.

The project is expected to reach up to 11,000 people and nearly 100 farms and businesses in Livingston County.
