Thanks to the help of two kayakers and the Rochester Police Department, two boaters have been rescued on the Erie Canal near Brooks Avenue yesterday around noon.
Two people were boating in the canal when they hit a log and were ejected from their boat without life jackets on.
The boat, unoccupied, went is circles and the people were able to grab onto seat cushions from the boat that double as floatation devices.
Two kayakers witnessed their struggle and helped them to shore where the police department helped them out of the water.
Rochester Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Stoianovich said they needed to be wearing their life jackets, and this shows that even when someone thinks they don’t need to be wearing it, they need to be wearing it.
He said the boaters were exhausted once they were able to reach the shore.
