Emergency crews on both sides of Cayuga Lake respond over holiday weekend to water-related incidents

It was a busy night for some first responders around Cayuga Lake after a pair of water-related incidents.

First responders were initially called for a pair of possible water rescues on Cayuga Lake during the evening hours on Saturday. While both of those incidents turned out favorably for those involved- it served as a reminder for care to be taken on water in the Finger Lakes.

One of the calls on Saturday was for a woman who had been out on a jet ski in Union Springs, but failed to return to shore. After going missing around 7:15 p.m., she was located around an hour later- shortly after first responders became involved in the search.

Across Cayuga Lake on the Seneca County side, a missing boater report had come in during the same timeframe. Rescue crews had established a command post at the Cayuga Lake State Park in Seneca Falls.

The missing boater was found and was being returned to his vessel, which was running unoccupied- which prompted the brief search for him.
