The Joanne S. Hayes Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Odessa-Montour High School graduate, Autumn Garrison, on behalf of the Arc of Chemung-Schuyler at her commencement ceremony on June 25th.
Joanne Hayes, who passed away in 1987, is the former president and board member of The ARC of Chemung-Schuyler and the $1,000 is given in honor of her. The award is given to a graduating senior seeking to further their education in human services, special education, or a related field for a career providing supports to people with developmental disabilities.
Garrison plans to enroll in the fall to obtain her nursing degree in order to help people in need, according to her application essay.
